Music Theory

Music Theory is the study of how music works.

Whilst fascinating and worthy of study in its own right, musicians and music students have added
reason to have a good understanding and working knowledge of this subject.

Understanding how music works is vital in mastering an instrument and being able to adapt to the many and varied situations we find ourselves in as working musicians.

Whether your ambition is to be a performer, composer or arranger, understanding the theory of
music is an invaluable skill that you will use throughout your musical career.

Music theory is taught “in context” throughout all our instrumental courses.

However, if you wish to study music theory as a separate subject we are happy to arrange individual time for you.

Individual theory lessons follow the syllabus from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)
